I found this title fitting because of my crazy urge to hike up mountains lately! (and because Dear Darci and I joked about this being the name of my blog, becuase, let's face it, that's my type :])
I realize I have three days to catch you up on, here we go, lightning round style!
Sunday: Went to Mountain View Bible Fellowship right down the mountain from the Inn. I was a little nervous, but it's God's House and God's family....hopefully I'd be welcome. God blessed me with the most wonderful older women. One of them called after me as I walked in exclaiming that she did not know my face. Her name is Joyce and her and her husband lived in Waco the first three years they were married. She did not enjoy it and she has no problem letting me know that. She has been going to this church since 1962. Insert Barbie (wearing an ironic pink skirt suit) her and Joyce have been best friends since the 70's. Joyce then begins to introduce me to nearly every member of the congregation one by one. She picked out her favorite young man to introduce me to and decided him and I should be friends. Don't worry, he lives in DC and ony comes to Estes 3 times a year. I sat between Joyce and Barbie in the very last, old school, orange carpeted pew. Joyce leaned over every once in awhile to tell me everyone's business, in a surprisingly not gosspiy way.....yet I still described them as the Church Gossips (in reality, they're the prayer team) because nothing got passed them! The message was great urging Christians to back up their faith with action! He was funny too...always welcome...
After church, the staff went into town searching for cookies and fudge...and of course simply scopin out the town. it was the first not too cold/snowy day in Estes, so everyone and their cousin's neighbor's nephew's bear were out exploring. We decided to head back up the mountain and go hiking......let the hilarity begin! The trail up the mountain by the Inn is Twin Sister's Trail. Four miles up, then obviously, 4 miles back down. That's trying enough, cover it with snow and put a less-than-athletically-inclined Texan on it....oh dear. Drew and I grabbed hiking staffs (and reserved the nickname of Gandolf) because it seemed like a good idea. I, ever so graciously gave mine to Hannah because I thought she needed it more than I did.... I could not stand on my own two feet to save my life.....I feel every 5 ft it felt like. Kept everyone laughing, reassuring me that God put me on this Earth to make sure people don't take things too seriousy...and so they know that there is someone with less balance than them :) At one point, I was so kindly directed to fall into a fresh batch of fluffy snow...why not...I probably would fall in it any way. So I count to 3 and Camp Thurman-style Trust Fall into this "fluffy" snow.....THUD! and I bounce back up a little. The snow was packed SOLID! Straight up, knocked the wind out of me backwards....everyone nearly rolled off the moutain laughing.
After the epic hike, we went into town to take in a movie at the precious historic theatre.....precious meaning quaint...unique......different. We saw Robin Hood and I decided that I should not choose to hike in snow then sit for 3 hours (yep, 3 full hours) in teeny tiny movie chairs. We certainly all had a grand time though :)
Monday:
SPring cleaning continued until around 3 and we were off to hike again. I would like to state for the record that i organized this hike and made the executive decision to go on a slightly more level hike to get us used to the elevation and full on work out of hiking. I guess the boys decided to overthrow me and led us right up a gorgeous, but STEEP hike...no no not a hike, a FULL ON ROCK CLIMB. I was bear crawlin up those suckers. I moaned and groaned and apologized A LOT on the way up there, but when we got to the top......SO WORTH IT! The view was INCREDIBLE! The company wasn't half bad either ;) I LOVE hiking with my staff/roommates/summer brothers and sistas! They are simply hilarious! We managed to get down RIGHT before the delicious dinner of chili and beer bread....mmmmmmmmmmm! We're a lil spoiled. After dinner some of the girls and I ran into town for a Starbucks run....old habits die hard.
Tuesday:
More cleaning and training and bonding with the staff! No hiking due to an unfortunate hail storm, but we call huddled together in the library to watch Avatar and it became apparent once again that we're not very good at long movies. GOOD movie, but...LONG. The active fireplace made it bearable :) haha as the sun went down, the library became dimmly lit by and orange glow of firey tree fragments and a blue glare of the bouncing cat people on the TV. Quite beautiful :)
I need to start giving more details on a daily basis because I know I have not shared all the hilarious things that have happened. Phone DATE! Call me and I'll fill you in :)
I discovered a Prayer Request section of my e-Bible today and I was SO excited becausae I can put all the prayer requests into my computer and reminders pop up! Thank you Jesus for technology, seriously. So with that, please let me know if you have any prayer requests, I would love to lift you up in prayer in any situation :)
Have a Blessed Day!
